The Simplified Planner® App App Reviews

Wanted to love, but waste of money

iCal is infinitely more useful than this app :(. First of all, it takes forever to open. Staring at the Emily Ley screen while Im trying to remember the thing I need to add to my to-do list or calendar is so frustrating. Then, the app constantly crashes, I cant view multiple events, I cant plan for meals besides dinner (which I guess is the way its advertised but I dont understand). Just a waste!

Cant wait to see future versions!

I love the Cora and style of the app but am a little disappointed in the functionality! I love the meal planner and list options, colors and fonts. I currently use the pocket life app and was expecting something similar with more style. Would love to see a monthly view calendar as well as the ability to color code events and view a monthly overview. Cant wait to see future versions because I really love the Emily Ley style but wish I would have saved my $ as it was pretty pricey for an app I wont really use in its current form.

Needs a lot of TLC

Like numerous other reviewers, I had high hopes for this app, but its just a disappointment. Its too time consuming to be utilized; a far cry from simplified. The app crashes randomly and its next to impossible to edit an item on a to-do list -- the old information keeps reappearing so you have to mark something complete and re-enter new information if you want to change anything after the original entry. It also randomly reorders your lists which is the most annoying flaw in this glitchy app. Dont waste your money.

Beautiful.. But..

I love the design of this app but it barely works at all. If you edit anything it crashed and deleted everything, repeated tasks go on the wrong day frequently, it doesnt always sync. Every time I use it as a planner I regret it.

Incredibly Disappointed

This app worked great when I first downloaded it, but has since been absolutely awful! Every time I try to add an event the app closes, it doesnt save, or doesnt sync like its supposed to. Its caused me to miss appointments & has been more of a hassle than anything else. Im back to using my regular calendar. Huge disappointment for such an anticipated release. Ive since deleted it.

Want to like it a lot

I love having my calendar, notes, and even dinner all in one place. Was kind of bummed when I found out that to get any other color themes its additional though since Ive already paid $4.99 for this. Update.....Crashes a lot. Events I put in to repeat yearly are repeating daily. Ive lost events and notes. Feeling like its just a big waste of money. Hopefully fixes will be coming really soon.

I tried to love it!

I really wanted to love this. I have a Simplified Planner but rarely find myself using it because Im honestly not that busy and I dont have enough going on to justify toting it around. I thought this app would be my perfect little planner. But I think it was released too soon. It frequently shuts down when Im creating an event. It sometimes saves a single event on two different days so I never know which event is the real one and which is the duplicate. I have also found it doesnt sync well with my iCalendar app. I really hate to be negative and Im sure one day I will love it. But I just cant use it till the issues are resolved, sadly. I do love the notes and list options though! That is really nice. :)

I want to like it, but Im highly disappointed

I had really high hopes for this app. I really like Emily Leys products, but this one was very disappointing. Understandingly, this was her first attempt at an app, and I believe it will be better with more time and updates. But as for now, I get more use out of the standard iPhone calendar app. I WANT to like this app, but it simply brings nothing to the table.

Crashes

Love this app, but since I updated on July 5th it crashes every time I click save on a calendar appointment.

Eh

This app is okay, its nice to be able to sync all of your calendars but its a little overpriced for what you get. For the life of me I cant figure out how to delete a list once its been completed. Not the most user friendly item

Crashes/random daily reminder

Love Emily Ley, but its not worth the money. Its beautiful and I love the weekly menu but editing events is really difficult. You have to press on the event just right or else itll take you to a screen to add a new event. Ive given up on using it because editing events is so difficult and frustrating. I also keep getting reminders for events at random times so much so that Ive deleted all my events and Im STILL getting reminders. Frustrating. Also, with the new update it keeps crashing. Wish I didnt spend the $5.

Nice, but Not Quite There Yet

Update 7/8/15: Buggy, buggy, buggy! Random reminders (today I was reminded that I have yoga class on Saturday), crashes constantly, disappearing to-do items (Ive put in my grocery list twice. Finally gave up and went back to Reminders), and its not syncing with Google like its supposed to. Sorry Emily, I really want to like this app (especially since I spent $5 on it), but youre really going to have to step it up, honey. This app isnt worth $.99 at the moment. First of all, I LOVE Emily Ley’s design aesthetic. Everything she makes, the planners, journals, and the app itself are very clean and simple to use. I have one of her paper planners that I really enjoy, and I’ve been looking forward to the app! I downloaded the app today knowing that this is its first run, so there’s going to be bugs to work out and later updates to come (for example, I’m sure they’re working out the sync issues and it will sync in both directions with iCal and Google Calendar soon). However, as much as I love Emily’s products, this app’s functionality is nowhere near worth $5. Maybe MAYBE if the “themes” (which are really just color schemes) were included in the price, but they’re an extra $.99 each on top of the cost of the app. Stick with Sunrise or Google Calendar or whatever calendar app you’re using for now and save your money until the updates start rolling out, then maybe it’ll be worth the price.

Getting better

I like the updates but with the latest one it keeps crashing when I try to edit events... Im looking forward to more updates and with those I think this app will be just fine. Maybe some free themes also!

Still doesnt Work

Updated the new version - now it wont let me save events in the calendar!! This is crazy!

Its just okay but Im know it will be great soon!

I love the Simplified Planner and was so excited to download the app. It was just updated today and now the front page is really buggy. I am confident that the SP team will keep working out the bugs for this app.

Great App in Theory

Was so excited for this app as it touted the 2-way sync option w/ iCal which I looooove in a planning app. Unfortunately, it seems to still have bugs. First, it wouldnt sync any of my iCal events and then it seemed to do it after I closed and reopened the app. But it only synced one event. Believe me, my calendar has way more than one event on it. I toggled the sync option on and off in an attempt to reset the app and then none of my calendar events showed up. For $5 ($5 app!!!), I expected this to work far better than it does. If this is the finished product, I really regret this purchase. If there are bugs, please fix! I still have high hopes for this app, thus the 3-star rating. Please, please fix!! I want this to be the exact planning app for which Ive been searching!!

Excited, but disappointed

Well I was so very excited about an app version of these beautiful planners. I would suggest waiting to download. Its a pretty app, but doesnt function at all as a calendar. Events will not save to your calendar and so far there has been no sync with my current calendar. So it is at this point completely useless as a calendar/planner.

Too many bugs

I cant seem to make future events work. Also its not syncing. I hope this gets fixed soon!

Dont buy

Update: 9/20/15: Still doesnt work at all. Wont sync, wont let me add new events... Ive tried everything. I wish I could receive a refund. I fell like I was ripped off Update 7/8/15 I am starting to really regret this app. It crashes constantly. Takes me like 10 times to put an event in and get it to stay there. I get reminders for stuff the day after it happens. This app is way more trouble than it is worth. Ill go back to using just my iCal and other iPhone utilities. Really disappointing! So far its a great planner app. I love how you can see your day at a glance and the general set up is great. I wish there was an option for appointments to be scheduled the same time for a certain amount of days in a row. Like the kids summer camps for an entire week. A budgeting section would be a great addition and for the to do lists it would be great to be able to set a reminder for them. I have no doubt that Emily and her team will be working to improve on this app as time goes on, so it will only get better.

Almost perfect

I did not have the first version of this app and just downloaded a few days ago. At the moment it is not syncing with my iCal or saving events I try to create BUT I have full confidence it will be fixed quickly. Been a loyal customer of this brand for several years and Emily Ley does not create something to not have it be what her customers need/want. The positives right now are the daily screen shot shows you what dinner is and has an inspirational quote to motivate. The "To Do" list is GREAT! I can organize by topic and each one is its own list (Christmas, Halloween, Kid projects, House, so on). The notes are great to jot something down to remember for later. The dinner section lets you input your dinners for one week (and shown in daily shot). My only suggestion with that is make it for 2 weeks, my preference, and have it move along by date so you dont have to delete that day and re-type. Excited for the bugs to be fixed, my rating will change to 5 stars when they are.
